Our Story: Heart, Community, and Gymnastics

Where It All Began

Retford Gymnastics Club started its journey as an independent, not-for-profit club in 2007. Founded by Pam Rose with the support of the Bassetlaw Sports Development fund, our club was built on a simple dream: to provide a high-quality space for gymnastics in our local community.

Our first “home” at The Old Timber Shed in Torworth was a true labour of love. Once a dusty industrial workshop, it was transformed into a gym through the tireless hard work of our coaches, trustees, families, and friends. Armed with plenty of determination, we created a space where participation could truly flourish.

Growing With You

Over the years, we’ve grown from 70 members to over 600! Thanks to local support from various local businesses, and various Olympic grants, we’ve expanded into the whole premises, adding a reception area, a viewing gallery for parents, alongside specialist equipment like our foam pit and fast-track.

While we are proud to have gymnasts competing at the British Championships, we remain a club for everyone. From our “Little Gymstars” just finding their feet to our adult classes and competitive squads, there is a place for every age and ability at Retford.

More Than Just Sport

We believe gymnastics is the perfect foundation for life. It teaches discipline, strength, and flexibility, but more importantly, it builds confidence and self-esteem.

  • Youth Leadership: To keep young people engaged in sport, our Junior Leadership Scheme empowers gymnasts aged 11+ to volunteer and train as young helpers, inspiring the next generation.
  • Community Support: We know times can be tough. As a non-profit, we work hard to keep our fees as low as possible, ensuring that children from all backgrounds in the Retford and Worksop area have access to a safe, healthy after-school activity.
  •  Inclusivity: We are incredibly proud of our disability sessions. For many families, these sessions provide a vital, sensory-rich environment that isn’t available anywhere else.

Our Next Big Leap: The Back Gym Challenge

Success brings its own challenges! We are currently working hard to refurbish our “Back Gym.” This area houses our MAG equipment—rings, parallel bars, and pommels—which are essential for our gymnasts’ safety and development.

Currently, the floor and certain equipment is aging. To bring this space up to the standard our gymnasts deserve, we need to raise £25,000.

As a not-for-profit club, every penny we make goes back into the equipment and the children. We have achieved so much together, but we still have a long way to go. Whether you are a local business looking to sponsor a piece of kit or a parent wanting to help with a bake sale, your support makes a world of difference.

Together, we can keep the children of Retford jumping, flipping, and flying!

With your support, we are one step closer to achieve our goal.
